Kyle DeWitt, co-host of the radio industry show “The Radio Racket,” has some suggestions for new ESPN 950, which debuted April 1.
In an email, DeWitt wrote, “While I applaud Greater Media and WPEN for bringing in a great local talent like Mike Missanelli and getting Jody Mac (McDonald) into his natural mid-day slot, it still doesn’t seem to me that they are committed to taking on WIP. A show like “Mike and Mike” in the morning won’t draw an audience in this town and throwing a boat anchor like Mike Tirico in between your best local shows kills any momentum Jody builds. Now if they bring in Tony Bruno to put inbetween Jody and Mike then they may make some hay. Until then, it looks like more of the same of what we’ve seen since they signed on as a sports station.”
Kyle, is absolutely right…M and M in the am in this market vs. Angelo wont cut it. Even putting
Tony Bruno or Mike Miss. wont cut it in the am.
Unfortunately, P.D.Matt Natigan is only 50% done remaking 950. After the summer, they need to Tinico and bring in another local show.
What about Sandy Penner and Bruno in the am.
Penner was with WIP for a cup of coffee.
Also, infoprogramming on the weekends wont put a dent into 610′s ratings. Lamont, financial
shows on a ‘sports’ station, you need to laugh. Execs at 610 are laughing to ratings bank.
Sandy Penner? Are you kidding me?
The reason Tirico and Mike and Mike are there is becasue ESPN infused some cash that mad it possible to hire Missanelli.
I agree it’s a bad lead in and they need to get local but it ain’t going to happen.
Anyway, if you’re looking for local talent, I’d check out some of the weekend guys on WIP.
