Fox29 Sports Sheds Position

September 5, 2008 · 3 Comments

Industry sources report that veteran Fox29 sports staffer Paul Luongo’s position was eliminated last week.  Luongo, with the station for almost 20-years as a producer, also appeared on the air at Fox29, which is already short-staffed after Don Tollefson’s contract was not renewed.

In another sports move, Good Day Philadelphia’s John Anderson will be replacing Tollefson as the host of Eagles Game Day Live.  Anderson also hosted the Fox29 specials from training camp.

I am surprised that Fox29 overlooked sports veteran Bill Vargus for this role.

Why are you surprised? Bill Vargus isn’t good. he only has his job because of his wife. He stumbles and is hard to understand.

The new ND here is a real destructive force that wants the old guys out and the new guys in. I worked with him while he was ND in St. Louis at the Fox Station there and he is very upbeat on hiring young cheap talent.

It’s only a matter of time before another station will snatch up Paul Luongo, who is truly a gifted sports commentator.
