Charges Against Alycia Lane Dropped

As expected, a New York court today basically dropped charges against former CBS3 news anchor Alycia Lane.

According to the conditions set by a judge, as long as Lane stays out of trouble for six months, her record will be wiped clean.

Here are the details from Michael Klein.

Here’s the CBS3 story.

Oscar Telecast Recap

Here are some random thoughts about the 80th annual Academy Awards.

Host Report Card – Jon Stewart’s best moment was when he brought back the winner of Best Original Song to give her acceptance speech after she was cut off earlier.  His worst moment was the tired Jack Nicholson routine.  How about giving Jay Leno a try next year?

Best Couples – Steve Carell and Nancy Walls, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane, Joel and Ethan Coen

The New Jack Nicholson – George Clooney

The New Janeane Garofalo – Ellen Page

Visine Gets the Red Out – Presenters Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway, Katherine Heigl, and Helen Mirren all wore red.

Gym Teacher Chic – Best Supporting Actress Tilda Swinton will probably be at the top of most worst dressed lists.

Worst Dressed – Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody (too easy).

Product Placement – Host Stewart and a partner played a round of the Nintendo Wii, Stewart also broke out the iPhone.  Hilary Swank’s agent/boyfriend had a laptop on his lap (tacky).

Worst Beard – Viggo Mortenson

Was this the Oscars or the Golden Globes – The major acting awards went to non-Americans Javier (or Xavier as Regis Philbin called him in the preshow) Bardem, Tilda Swinton, Marion Cotillard, and Daniel Day Lewis.

ABC Stars in Commercials – Millions more saw Eva Longoria in her Loreal commercials than in her recent flop “Over My Dead Body.”  Kate Walsh gives a better performance in the Cadillac ad than in “Private Practice.”

The Lucy Liu Factor – Notice Cameron Diaz sitting with Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford?  Flockhart worked with Liu on “Ally McBeal” and Diaz and Liu were “Charlie’s Angels.”

Ryan Howard Scores National Subway Commercial

Not only did agent Casey Close help Phillies slugger Ryan Howard win his arbitration case, he’s also getting his client national endorsements.

Here’s Howard in a new Subway commercial with Michael Strahan, Laila Ali, and of course, company spokesperson Jared.

WIP’s Great Debate a Big Letdown

It was disappointing that Angelo Cataldi could not attend WIP’s “Great Debate” due to illness.

Although the event featured several other station personalities, the main attraction was going to be a face-to-face encounter between Cataldi and Howard Eskin.

Hopefully, WIP will reschedule the event as a one-on-one debate between Cataldi and Eskin.

NBC10’s Fit Fest Will Not Return

According to industry sources, NBC10’s annual “Fit Fest” health and fitness expo will not return this spring. Around 70,000 people attended the event each year, which featured station personalities and NBC celebrities.  It took place the last 11 years.

An NBC10 spokesperson wrote, “As the station continues sponsoring numerous community projects/events and with our increased involvement and sponsorship of environmental/ ‘going green’ projects we’ve decided to not sponsor ‘Fit Fest.’

Sources feel that budget concerns are the reason “Fit Fest” is not returning.
