New Assistant ND at CBS3

From CBS3:

Philadelphia, May 20, 2010 – John Wilson, an Executive Producer at CBS 3 since 2003, has been promoted to  Assistant News Director for CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV), Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller recently announced.

Since coming to Philadelphia, Wilson has overseen the stations’ 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts and supervised other major projects such as coverage of the 2004 Democratic National Convention, coverage of the Phillies World Series victory in 2008 and the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks broadcast.

“John has been instrumental in the ratings growth of CBS 3’s Eyewitness News at 11,” Schiller says, “bringing the show from third place to its current race for first place in late news locally.  His leadership skills in the newsroom make him the perfect choice for this position.”  Wilson replaces Cesar Aldama who was promoted to News Director of CBS’s Miami stations, WFOR-TV and WBFS-TV in March.

Prior to joining the Eyewitness News team, Wilson was the senior producer for WESH-TV in Orlando, Florida, responsible for that station’s top-rated late newscast.  Wilson has also held similar posts at KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington, WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee and WAPT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi.  He started his broadcasting career as a general assignment reporter at KZ-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A multiple Emmy Award winner, Wilson has also received honors from the Pennsylvania Associated Press and was part of the CBS 3 news team that received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for overall news excellence in 2009.

Wilson is a 1987 graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. A Pennsylvania native, Wilson and his family now reside in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.

  1. Does not appear that KYW/CBS has diversity in their plans.

  2. Maceo brings up a good question. How does CBS3 do on the diversity front:

    Station has
    Beasley Reece
    Ukee Washington
    Dave Huddleston
    Natasha Brown
    Dray Clark

The first four all are top notch (although I could do without Beasley’s football clutching). Ukee is solid and a complete pro. Dray Clark is underwhelming though.

  3. None are featured in high profile roles. Yes,
BR is the Sports Director, for a three minute segment. (I agree, the football has to go)
Tallest midget…..Main anchors, white male & pretty blonde. You forgot AnnMarie Green.

  4. Of course, Ann Marie Greene. She is decent too. Lost in the shuffle on the dreaded Sunday morning time slot. On the plus side, she is paired with Lesley Van Arsdall and her yummies
