CBS3 Names Replacement For Liz Keptner in A.M.

From CBS3:

Philadelphia, June 30, 2010 – Erika von Tiehl, an evening anchor at the CBS stations in Miami, will join Ukee Washington as co-anchor of Eyewitness News This Morning on CBS 3 and The CW Philly this August, Susan Schiller, Vice President and News Director has announced.

Von Tiehl currently co-anchors the 5:30 p.m. newscast for WFOR-TV and the 10 p.m. newscast on sister station WBFS-TV in Miami. She has been with the Miami stations since 2007.  Previously, von Tiehl was a morning and noon news anchor for WKBW, the ABC station in Buffalo, New York and an anchor/reporter for KIEM, the NBC affiliate in Eureka, California.

Von Tiehl has specialized in breaking news coverage throughout her career, reporting on a variety of stories from a tsunami threat in Northern California to the search an escaped convict on the FBI’s “most wanted list” in New York State.  On the lighter side of the business, she has developed multiple lifestyle segments for the morning news programs she has anchored.

“Her background as a reporter, coupled with her versatility as an anchor, makes Erika a great addition to our morning team,” Schiller says.  “The morning news is a vehicle where you get to use every tool in the toolbox and she is well-prepared to do so and enthusiastic about the challenge.”

Von Tiehl, is a 2003 cum laude graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications studies.  A native of Pasadena, California, this history buff says she is looking forward to living in such a celebrated city.  “The City’s reputation for rich history, museums and great neighborhoods precedes it,” she says, “and I can’t wait to dive in.”

Eyewitness News This Morning airs 5 to 7 a.m. on CBS 3 and 7 to 9 a.m. on The CW Philly.   CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly 57 (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.

  1. should have gone to ann-marie green. alwyas the blonde/blue

  2. Should’ve went to Pat Ciarrocchi. Her and Ukee make a great team! But can’t wait to see Erika!

  3. Traffic Schlub

Right on with Anne Marie or Pat C … two sharp, pleasant great-looking women who know what they are talking about ….

You don’t have to teach them how to pronounce Margaret Street or Bala Cyn Wyd …

  4. out with one blonde, in with the next. Always fun watching a newbie trying to pronounce “schuylkill” and feining excitement about our local sports team’s fortunes.

Pat is a capable fill in, but not a long term solution. They need youth and eye candy in the morning.

I would have like to have seen AMG get the slot. Guess she sees the writing on the wall now.

  5. didn’t both Susan Barnett and Alycia what’s her name both get plucked from Miami as well ?

  6. what’s up with Miami ? Didn’t both Susan Barnett and Alycia also get plucked from Miami prior to coming here?

  7. From what I’ve googled on her she seems pretty well-rounded (including a big hockey fan) – not just a pretty face. I wonder if she and Susan Barnett overlapped at all at WFOR?

  8. Oh wait, I guess they didn’t overlap. But they did both come from the same station in Miami, for the same position here, at similar ages (Barnett was 33, von Tiehl turned 30 yesterday).

  9. She has a twitter page, and not alot of followers

Here she is at a charity event

EVT looks sufficient to replace Keptner, who was good but not great.

  10. She looks like Beauty Pageant Winner Susan Barnett. What is this the Miss KYW contest?

  11. I was surprised they didn’t give this spot to AMG – she is seriously being underutilized…Pat wouldn’t want the spot she’s not trying to get up that early in the morning anymore…

  12. eye candy strikes again!

  13. My guess is she’ll do a fine job….just long enough to get noticed so she can make it home to work in the Los Angeles market. Philly is probably just a top ten stepping stone for her.

  14. Some young Philly dude is gonna get real LUCKY!!! Bless youth.

  15. they need eye candy in the am!!!
BTW Pat Chiarrocci did mornings for almost 2 decades so she has earned the ability to not have to do mornings anymore. She is fine at Noon and 4pm! Can’t wait to see Erica!

  16. Feltonville Fran

I can’t wait to see Erica. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen on television.

I could care less if she is an out of towner who knows nothing about us and our issues.

She is one gorgeous human being! Oh my gosh!

  17. 3 and 6 Fan — you must not be much of a 3 fan, because then you would know Pat only does noon, not 4pm. But not a bad idea, wouldn’t mind seeing her at 4pm, perhaps with Dave Huddleston.

  18. you should know what I mean when I say 4pm she is fine when she fills in for Chris and Susan!!!

  19. Frank in Mayfair

Stupid, stupid, STUPID not putting Pat Ciarrocchi and Ukee back together

  20. Frank in Mayfair

And – TVNewsLover – Pat reports for the 4pm news when not filling in

  21. Come on, friends…you know this is a young person’s business, esp for women. Pat C is fortunate to have been able to stay on the air as an anchor as long as she has. And, let’s face it: if she were lighting the ratings on fire, she’d be used on a more profitable newscast.

  22. Susan’s from Levittown.

  23. Channel 3 Fan

I’ve always thought Pat Chirrocchi was the best eye candy in Philly!!!! Wish they would have kept her on in the a.m. I really miss this days when she and Amy Caples were on in the morning!!! Keep Pat, let the new one do something else!!!!

  24. I can’t wait until Susan gets back. Watching Chris and Natasha is like getting a root canal.
