Philadelphia, June 30, 2010 – Erika von Tiehl, an evening anchor at the CBS stations in Miami, will join Ukee Washington as co-anchor of Eyewitness News This Morning on CBS 3 and The CW Philly this August, Susan Schiller, Vice President and News Director has announced.
Von Tiehl currently co-anchors the 5:30 p.m. newscast for WFOR-TV and the 10 p.m. newscast on sister station WBFS-TV in Miami. She has been with the Miami stations since 2007. Previously, von Tiehl was a morning and noon news anchor for WKBW, the ABC station in Buffalo, New York and an anchor/reporter for KIEM, the NBC affiliate in Eureka, California.
Von Tiehl has specialized in breaking news coverage throughout her career, reporting on a variety of stories from a tsunami threat in Northern California to the search an escaped convict on the FBI’s “most wanted list” in New York State. On the lighter side of the business, she has developed multiple lifestyle segments for the morning news programs she has anchored.
“Her background as a reporter, coupled with her versatility as an anchor, makes Erika a great addition to our morning team,” Schiller says. “The morning news is a vehicle where you get to use every tool in the toolbox and she is well-prepared to do so and enthusiastic about the challenge.”
Von Tiehl, is a 2003 cum laude graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications studies. A native of Pasadena, California, this history buff says she is looking forward to living in such a celebrated city. “The City’s reputation for rich history, museums and great neighborhoods precedes it,” she says, “and I can’t wait to dive in.”
