Hugh Hits The Big Time

Hugh Douglas Joins ESPN as NFL Studio Analyst

Former NFL defensive end Hugh Douglas is joining ESPN as a NFL studio analyst.  He will provide analysis across a myriad of studio programs such as SportsCenter, NFL Live, ESPN2’s First Take and ESPNEWS.  Douglas will make his ESPN debut today including appearing on NFL Live at 4 p.m. ET.

A 10-year NFL veteran who played for the New York Jets (1995 – ’97), Philadelphia Eagles (1998 – 2002, 2004) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003), Douglas was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1995 by both the Associated Press and Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA).  Selected No. 16 overall in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Jets, Douglas was a three-time Pro Bowl (2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons).

“I am very excited about becoming a part of the ESPN family,” said Douglas.  “I plan to approach my role with ESPN with the same tenacity and commitment that I had during my 10-year NFL career.”

In his prime, Douglas was among the league’s best defensive ends.  He is ranked fourth on the Eagles’ all-time sack list with 54.5 sacks in six seasons.  Due to his influence and leadership in the locker room, Douglas was hired by the Eagles as a “Goodwill Ambassador” in 2005 after he was released by the team.

Since retiring from the NFL, Douglas has made a successful transition from the gridiron to media, having served as an on-air reporter and contributor for WTXF-TV, KYW-TV and Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia, and as sports radio personality on Philadelphia’s WIP 610 Radio.

WJ will comment after he’s been revived.

  2. This is simply astonishing. Hugh has no talent, he is unprepared, and he offers little analysis and insight. Everyone likes Hugh and he is a fun, affable guy. But lets call this out — He was a total disaster on Fox29 and he is equally as useless on WIP.

Maybe this means he will be off the air here. That was not clear from the missive above.

  3. He has pictures of someone @ ESPN. As far as that statement above credited & quoting Hugh, no way that illerate wrote that one. This dude is a moron.

  4. So bent about HD the ILLITERATE!!

  5. Ditto….thank goodness….he was brutal…I could walk into that station cold and do a better job…he was #1 at taking the air out of every topic….nice guy..but was clear he didn’t spend one hour training to get better

  6. Wow, did you see that bow tie?? Now he looks like the clown he sounds like. Rocking them bow’s Glenn & Hugh!!

  7. Can we now rid ourselves of G. Cobb? Keep Ike just because he torments Mr. Burger King.

  8. His agent is a magician!
