Tom Davis Takes the Reins at Action News

(Philadelphia, PA)  –  The local news leader has a new leader.  Longtime Assistant News Director, Tom Davis, has been named Vice President & News Director at 6abc Action News.  President & General Manager Bernie Prazenica made the announcement to a cheerful newsroom this morning.  “Tom’s promotion is well deserved.” says Prazenica.  “He has distinguished himself as a top flight news manager over two decades, and is uniquely qualified to lead Action News into the future on television, online, and on all mobile platforms.”  Davis has been the Assistant News Director at WPVI-TV, the ABC-owned station in Philadelphia, since March 15th 2004. 

Davis has more than 20-years of experience in TV news, working in several different television markets.  Before coming to Philadelphia, he was the Assistant News Director at WJLA in Washington, DC.  He spent five years in the nation’s capital, supervising the day-to-day operations at both the ABC affiliate and at its cable station – NewsChannel 8.  Prior to Philadelphia and D.C., Davis was an executive producer at television stations in both Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio.

Davis takes over for Carla Carpenter, who was recently promoted to Senior Vice President of Digital Media for the owned television group.  An Ohio native, Davis attended Youngstown State University.  He is married and has three children.
