New Reporter Joins NBC10

PHILADELPHIA, PA – November 9, 2012 – NBC10 Philadelphia announced today that Daralene Jones will be joining the station as a reporter starting on January 7, 2013. Jones joins NBC10 from ABC affiliate WFTV in Orlando, Florida, where she has been reporting since 2007.

Jones started her journalism career in 2002 at WICS-TV in Springfield, Illinois. She later moved on to WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois, where she served as a reporter and Decatur Bureau Chief from 2003- 2005. From 2005-2007 she reported for WREG-TV in Memphis, Tennessee.

In her most recent role at WFTV in Orlando, Jones earned a reputation for delivering breaking news and exclusive stories. She was the station’s lead reporter on the hazing death of Florida A&M University drum major Robert Champion. She is known for holding authority figures accountable, and just this week pressed Governor Rick Scott on his refusal to extend early voting and the role that may have played in the state’s still-uncertified results from Tuesday’s presidential election.

“Daralene is an engaging and dynamic reporter,” said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 Philadelphia. “She’ll be an important part of our daily mission to deliver the best breaking news stories and information to our viewers.”

Originally from Chicago, Jones earned an M.S. in public affairs from the University of Illinois at Springfield as well as a B.S. in mass communication from Illinois State University. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, and served as president for the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists.

Jones will be relocating to the Philadelphia area.
