Tension on the Fox29 Set?

I can’t imagine that things are peachy between Fox29’s Dawn Stensland and John Bolaris, after Bolaris sold Stensland’s husband, Larry Mendte, down the river in an article in the Inquirer on Sunday.

Bolaris, who previously worked with Mendte at NBC10, basically said how Mendte wanted to take all the credit for NBC10’s success.

Meanwhile, Mid-Atlantic Emmy award nominations are coming out August 5.  I wonder  how many nominations Mendte, who won 13 awards last year, will receive and if he’ll show up at the nomation event in August.

UPDATE – Station sources say that Bolaris and Dawn made plans to go out to dinner Thursday night.  Maybe they cleared the air?

Susanne LaFrankie Weighs In

Former Channel 6 medical reporter-turned media consultant Susanne LaFrankie reacted to the news that CBS3 news anchor Larry Mendte is under a federal investigation for reading the emails of former colleague, Alycia Lane, who was fired in January. “I’ve never seen anything like it. It looks like Alycia Lane isn’t going down alone. You’ve got to wonder–if this is all true– what type of competitive relationship these two had,” LaFrankie said.
As for what CBS3 should do, LaFrankie said, “I say wipe the slate clean…move on quickly, concentrate on the station’s credibility, reputation and integrity–after all they are a news organization in the fourth largest market.”

I’m a 3 Watcher (To See the Musical Anchors)

With Larry Mendte off the air indefinitely and possibly for good, for the second time in six months, CBS3 has a major vacancy to fill.

Their probable first choice would be weekday 4 p.m. news anchor Chris May who arrived less than a year ago.

My first choice would be weekday morning news anchor Ukee Washington, who ironically paired with current 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. anchor Susan Barnett in the A.M. until she was replaced with Liz Keptner in the fall of 2007.

Or maybe CBS3 could bring Marc Howard out of retirement?

Of course, Dave Huddleston is available too, as his contract wasn’t renewed by Fox29.

This should be interesting.

Larry Mendte Investigated by FBI About Accessing Alycia Lane’s Personal Email

Michael Klein breaks the surprising story.

Not surprisingly, it’s not on cbs3.com but it’s the top story on nbc.com and 6abc.com, but not on myfoxphilly.com, probably out of deference to Mendte’s wife, Dawn Stensland, who is the 10 p.m. news anchor there.

It is also the top story on CBS3 sister station, kyw1060.com.

CBS3 Personnel Move – A Hiring, Not a Firing

Former CBS3 intern Ben Simmoneau joins CBS3 as a reporter Wednesday.

Simmoneau spent the last five years as an anchor and reporter at WGAL-TV in Lancaster, PA.

He grew up in Spring City and graduated from Ithaca College in 2003.

Former NBC10 Sports Anchor Derek Castillo Update

Former NBC10 weekend sports anchor Derek Castillo is leaving NBC5 in Dallas to spend more time with his wife and 8-year-old son.  In an interview with Ed Bark of Above the Fold, Castillo said he did not want to sign another contract to work weekends.

Former Phillies pitcher Tyler Green debuted on CW57’s post game show that aired after the Phillies game Sunday.

Green will join Don Bell or Beasley Reese for around 20 Sunday games.

Shane Victorino is scheduled to be a regular too (let’s see if he can hold on to his everyday centerfield job).

Seacrest vs. Dunkleman

Sunday night at 8 p.m., viewers can see the different fortunes of the original hosts of “American Idol,” Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman.

On Channel 17, viewers can see a much blonder Seacrest on “American Idol Rewind.”

On VH1, Dunkleman is part of the latest group of has-beens on “Celebrity Fit Club.”

After hosting the first season of “A.I.,” in what has to be one of the worst career choices in show business history, Dunkleman left the show.

Meanwhile, Seacrest has become the Dick Clark of the millenium.
