Philadelphia, August 23, 2010 – SportsRadio 610 WIP Host and former Philadelphia Eagle Ike Reese will expand his on-air role with CBS 3/CW Philly’s Eyewitness Sports this fall, Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller has announced.

Reese, a contributor to CBS 3’s Sunday Kickoff program since 2009, will continue in that role when the new season debuts this September 12th. He will also take on additional duties as a back up sports anchor for the station.

Reese is heard on CBS sister station WIP with Howard Eskin weekdays, 3 to 7 p.m.

  1. Arent Schiller and Co. aware what happened with G.Cobb. This is a HUGE
error. Just with this move and NO official weekend sports anchor Susan
should be fired. Seems that G.M. Hickcock really doesnt care about the sports
dept. Look they gave the weekend to Leslie Van Arsdall until she told management she is “with child”. Reese has a voice for radio. Will Ike go to a broadcasting teacher because we all know Cobb couldnt read his script or a teleprompter even if it was next to him. GOOD LUCK IKE AND MS. SCHILLER

  3. ONLY ONE WORD THAT BART MISSED, PATHETIC!

  4. Easy solution., Don’t watch. There, see how easy it is not to have your intelligence insulted? Problem solved.

  5. Ike is a mush mouth. Seems like a very nice man, but he’s way out of his element when discussing anything other than football.

I have to hand it to LVA – I think she’s doing a very capable job as the sports fill-in. She’s clearly a fan as she has yet to botch one player pronunciation. That’s saying a lot when you consider she covered the Stanley Cup playoffs.

  6. Weather Channel Wally

Gary Cobb’s content is/was usually interesting. He speaks the truth as he sees it.

If he had been coached, and worked with an assistant producer who could help make his content “television”, he would have been a unique asset that would have been a reason to watch. Who’s tuning in to see a high school band or the traffic reporter??????????

But no, GC was dropped because the people in charge didn’t recognize what they had.

  7. Okay, how does the sports anchor situation over at CBS 3 compare to the rotating sports anchors over at ACTION NEWS since Gary Papa died? And how did G. Cobb and Van Arsdall compare to Russell and Apody? (Cobb was at least likeable by viewers!).

  8. To 3 and 6 Fan,

Believe it or not, V.A. is WATCHABLE!!!!!!!! can you understand. Good gosh! Cobb couldnt talk, read his script vs. the teleprompter and lastly needed to go to a broadcasting teacher. No one watches Russell or Apody just for the sports. Remember we have Comcast Sportsnet and their is always ESPN channels.

  10. CBS3 should have hired Hugh. Isiah loves to act the fool.

  11. It’s official: CBS3 has conceded to everyone else in the sports category.

  12. No Bart. We all don’t have ESPN/CONcast.
I don’t have cable and don’t need it. In fact, I’ll never subscribe to cable again!

  13. Yes, Frank thats what their management is telling us. Since Anthony is doing sports at Fox29, Howard is at NBC10. Who else is there at 610 that can draw
an audience even if its at 1.0.

  14. I have nothing against Ike Reese. Nice enough guy and all, but he doesn’t have the chops as of yet for this kind of a move. I’ll agree with earlier sentiments that Lesley Van Arsdall would be a better fit seeing how she has a sports background and was more than capable in a fill in role.

  15. I’ve known G Cobb for years. He, by his own admission, does not have a great work ethic. He was not fired, he just didnt want the grind. GC is very happy with his part-time gig at 610. His website earns him a nice living that allows him to perform his community work with kids. Plus, he is addicted to Facebook, just listen to him on 610, he cant maintain his train of thought.

  16. Cobb is ok as a sidekick, but can clearly NOT hold his own.

His radio show is often vacant of listeners, forcing “G” to go on these
    awful monologues with no direction.

Knows Football, but thats about it. Clearly better, though, than
    the inept Hugh Douglas.

Ike has come a long way in a short time. Knows other sports
besides football. Not afraid to mix it up with Eskin. Happy to
    see him get this gig.

LVA is terrific. But know she has a little one to give her yummies
    the attention they deserve

Maceo- any luck with the new sista at CBS3?

  17. WJ, funny you should ask. Havent had any opportunities. BUT, I did meet Shirleen in Center City while she was working a story. I wanna have babies with that woman. Plus, shes sweeter than she’s beautiful. This brotha, is stuck. Never saw a woman that is the package that Shirleen is.
