PHILADELPHIA, PA – DECEMBER 12, 2011 – Philadelphia 76ers Chief Executive Officer and co-Owner Adam Aron announced yesterday via his Twitter account (@SixersCEOAdam) that life-long Philadelphian and veteran broadcaster Tom Lamaine will be the team’s new Public Address Announcer for home games at the Wells Fargo Center beginning this season. Additionally, Aron announced that Matt Cord has been promoted to “Senior Correspondent” for the team’s official web site SIXERS.COM.

“The new owners of the Philadelphia 76ers have promised transformational changes in the game presentation for the Sixers when we play home games at the Wells Fargo Center. We are also committed to dramatically boosting content on our web site, SIXERS.COM,” Aron said. “With this announcement, we have made progress to achieve both goals.”

Aron added, “Tom Lamaine, with all his years of media training and being a life-long 76ers fan, will provide a professional and fresh new sound during Sixers games.  And Matt Cord, capitalizing on his deep knowledge of the Sixers having announced more than 500 games, now gets the opportunity to go on camera and will provide a professional and fresh new face to SIXERS.COM. For Sixers fans, it should prove enjoyable to watch both flourish in their new roles.”

Lamaine was a television icon in Philadelphia for over 40 years, retiring as the longtime meteorologist for CBS-3 in 2008 and also served as the one-time broadcaster of Philadelphia 76ers games.  Before joining KYW full-time in 1984, Lamaine anchored both weather and sports on a part-time basis beginning in 1979. Previously, he was an on-air personality, announcer and sportscaster for Philadelphia’s WIP radio for 15 years, where he also hosted Eagles pre- and post-game programs.

Prior to being named Senior Correspondent for SIXERS.COM, Cord spent 14 seasons as the Sixers public address announcer. Cord is an on-air personality at 93.3FM WMMR weeknights from 7-12 p.m. His radio career began in New York at WBLI-FM and WDRE-FM before returning to Philadelphia in 1993 as a deejay at WMMR-FM then WPLY-FM. Upon his return, Cord also had announcing duties for the Philadelphia Phantoms and Philadelphia Wings.
